World’s Most Unusual Hotels Part 1

Aren’t we always intrigued by what’s new and different? Wouldn’t it be cool to stay at some place very special and unique? It could become the trip of a lifetime and certainly earn you bragging rights among your family and friends. Huffington Post did an interesting survey of 10 very unusual and wonderful hotels. Imagine sleeping in an igloo, a prison, walls made of salt, a railroad station, in the middle of the rainforest in the Amazon! Well, now you can. Check out this list and call us to check on availability and best prices for you. If you have an unusual hotel to add to this list, contact me at: 203-221-3171, 888-499-7245, email us at: egreenwald@cruiseplanners.com.

Oxford, UK:
Malmaison Oxford presents guests with the unique opportunity to spend the night in a converted Victorian prison. The cells are now stylish hotel rooms, boasting comfortable beds, plasma televisions, power showers and complimentary toiletries. The Malmaison has retained its original features while providing a modern and stylish ambience. The unmistakable prison corridors have been tastefully furnished with red carpets and the restaurant showcases the original metal staircases.

Stockholm, Sweden:
Jumbo Stay Hostel in Sweden allows guests to enjoy all the comforts and luxuries of flying first class, without even leaving the ground. This Boeing 747, previously in service for Pan Am and Singapore Airlines, is located on a disused runaway at Stockholm airport. Many original features of this iconic aeroplane are still intact, including the controls in the cockpit and the emergency exit signs.

Indianapolis, Indiana:
Crowne Plaza Indianapolis Downtown Union Station is located within Indianapolis’s still operating Union Station, allowing guests to spend the night in one of America’s oldest railway station. The hotel is renowned for its authentic Pullman train car sleeper rooms, still resting on their original tracks. Guests can also enjoy complimentary sleep amenities such as eye masks and lavender spray, valet service and an indoor swimming pool and hot tub. The Grand Hall boasts huge arches and high stained glass ceilings, making it a favorite for weddings and other social events

Lapland, Finland:
Igloo Village Kakslauttanen allows guests to discover the best of Lapland: reindeer, husky dogs, ice hotels and the northern lights. Guests can choose between staying in one of the individual log cabins, traditional snow igloos or futuristic glass igloos. The snow igloos offer guests the novelty of spending a night sleeping on ice, whilst the glass igloos allow an unobstructed view of the starry night sky. During the day, the hotel offers rides by husky, reindeer or snowmobile, as well as ice-fishing and guided ski treks. At night time, guests can take advantage of Igloo Village’s extensive amenities, including a snow chapel, ice bar, the world’s largest smoke sauna and a snow restaurant. This hotel is #1 on my Bucket List of Unusual hotels!

Los Angeles, California
The grand Queen Mary cruised from 1937 to 1967 between Southampton and New York City. This ship totalled 1,001 transatlantic crossings and went from the epitome of elegance and class to a camouflaged grey troopship during the Second World War. Guests now have the opportunity to stay aboard this historical ship.. Many of the original features remain, such as rich wood panelling, Art Deco décor, original art work and operating portholes. The ship also offers historic tours, shops, spas and various events to allow guests to fully experience everything The Queen Mary has to offer.
