Visiting Nice France from the Mediterranean Port of Monte Carlo

I absolutely loved Nice when I visited it on my Mediterranean cruise last summer. Nice is on the French Riviera but has a very Italian feel to it. I loved wandering the cobblestone streets, going to the antiques flea market in the Old Town, tasting my way around the wonderful French cafes, admiring the wonderful architecture and fountains. Something that did surprise me: The beaches are rocky, not soft sandy beaches like in the Caribbean.

There is a lot to see in one day. Next time I am going back to Nice for more time to see all of the museums (Chagall and Matisse and many more) and sample a lot more of the amazing food. I love the cafe life of lingering over a glass of wine or a cappucino and pastry, deep in conversation or doing people watching! I don’t like rushing through life and Nice is the perfect place to relax and soak everything in. Check out the photos of my visit to Nice France on my Facebook Business Page, Cruise Planners: Best Cruises and Travel Now. Here are some highlights from Conde Nast Traveler that are very useful:

From Monte Carlo:

45 minutes away is Nice. Stop at the bustling flower ad produce market on Cours Saley in Nice’s Old Town. Enjoy the regional cheeses, honeys and local ham and Socca, a kind of chickpea pancake. Go through the old quarter to a Baroque gem, the Palais Lascaris, where the 17th century wealthy merchants lived. Sample fine olive oils from Nicolas Alziari. Then head to St Paul de Vence, with great views of the Meditterean. Try to get in to La Colombe d”or before lunch for a private viewing of the Picassos, Matisses and Braques. Check out the alleys and galleries and go into the 12th Cent Collegiate Church of St. Pauls Conversion. Visit the Chapelle du Rosaire, created by Matisse for the Dominican nuns of Vence in the 1950s. Finally zip back to Monte Carlo for a walk through the Old Town. Don’t miss the cathedral and grand Oceanographic Museum.
